Current TV Explores Modern Day Pirates in the Strait of Malacca

Here is an interesting video clip from Current TV, on modern day pirates in the Strait of Malacca.

In the video clip, Kaj Larsen

  • interviews Capt Pottengal Mukundan, director of the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) who keeps track of sea borne piracy worldwide.
  • visits the IMB Piracy Reporting Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and gives details of their working.
  • visits Batam to talk to pirate trackers, meets sailors who have been attacked by pirates and further takes the risk to visit dangerous Blakam Padam islands to meet the pirates in their infamous dens.
  • finds out that poverty is the reason for piracy in Strait of Malacca.

Kaj Larsen further concludes by saying ” Piracy can not be stopped ” in the Strait of Malacca.
